Many of my readers may be too young to remember the late Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev (1894-1971). He once bragged,
We will take America without firing a shot ... we will bury you! We can't expect the American people to jump from capitalism to communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have communism. We do not have to invade the United States, we will destroy you from within.
- Nikita Khrushchev
I didn't believe the quote when I heard it as a young boy, but I sincerely believe it today. I fear for my country's future. This fact was driven home today when I read a caption during a news report that said, Young People More Likely To Favor Socialism Than Capitalism: Pew My first reaction was to laugh as I remembered a quote often attributed to Winston Churchill.
If you are 20 years old and you're not a socialist, then you have no heart. If you're 40 years old and you're still a socialist, you have no brain.
As it turns out, that quote is paraphrased from the original, and it turns out that Winston Churchill never said it. None the less, I feel the observation is still valid. That's because very few people, young OR old, have any real understanding of the philosophy behind either socialism or communism. In chapter 5 of Good to be King I provide the definitions for these two forms of government.
A theory or system of social organization which advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production, capital, land, etc. in the community as a whole. It is significant to note that in Marxist theory this is the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles
A theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
It is imperative to understand that the "collectivist principle" is the opposite of "private property". John Adams said, "The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the law of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence." Our country is based on a fundamental principle of private property. Communism and socialism are the antithesis of that. They are totally incompatible with our Constitution.
How do you tell a Communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.
- Ronald Reagan
I did not watch the presidential debate, and I am actively avoiding any news stories about the 2016 election. Why? Because communism has already won. How can you take this election seriously when the Republican front runner wears a bad toupee, and runs his mouth like a carnival barker? It doesn't scare the crap out of you that Bernie Sanders, an admitted socialist, is running a close second in the Democratic field? Bernie Sanders isn't eligible to BE a senator! You cannot swear an oath to the Constitution, thereby promising to defend the private property of all Americans, when the philosophy that you promote "advocates the vesting of ownership... in the community as a whole". Senator Sanders perjured himself the moment he took his oath of office. Oh, well. Minor oversight I guess.
How did things get this bad? Because most Americans are pretty stupid. I know it's not politically correct to say so out loud, but I've eaten broccoli smarter than some of the people in the following videos. The first is a three minute survey taken on the campus of Texas Tech. Oddly enough, there was a lot of criticism of the video because people thought is was deliberately demeaning the students at Texas Tech. The young interviewer had enough confidence in her conclusions that she posted a video response to the numerous complaints. The third video is just... mind boggling. Can people really be that stupid?

One normal reaction to this article might be, "How did all this happen so quickly?" Unfortunately, it has be happening slowly for quite some time. Joseph Sobran was from my mother's generation, and he is heralded as "perhaps the finest columnist of [that] generation". Many years ago I read an article he wrote entitled, How Tyranny came to America. Please notice that it is written in the past tense. I urge you to follow the link and read the entire article. It is excellent. I think this was published in the early 60's,
"We do not have to invade the United States, we will destroy you from within."
